The Shape Of Memory Exhibition at 99 Bishopsgate
The Shape of Memory
Dates: September 30 – December 7, 2025
Venue: 99 Bishopsgate, London, United Kingdom
In celebration of Black History Month, we are delighted to present The Shape of Memory, a group exhibition featuring three remarkable artists represented by Tafeta Gallery: Alain Joséphine, Babajide Olatunji and Nkechi Ebubedike. While each draws from distinct cultural backgrounds and personal histories, their works converge around themes of heritage, identity and collective memory. Brookfield Properties
Artists & their Practices:
- Alain Josphine (b. 1968, Martinique) studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux and uses large-scale abstract paintings to examine sensory and symbolic dimensions of Caribbean landscapes, memory and materiality.
- Babajide Olatunji (b. 1989, Nigeria) brings a unique background in botany and a self-taught studio practice to his “Tribal Marks Series” — hyper-realistic imagined portraits reflecting Yoruba scarification traditions, drawn from memory rather than direct reference.
- Nkechi Ebubedike (b. 1984, Nigeria/USA) based in Brooklyn, utilises multimedia (acrylic, ink, plexiglass, linen) to explore spatial tensions and psychological states, layering materials and meaning in striking compositions.
This powerful exhibition invites viewers to engage with how artists reclaim, reinterpret and re-express history, culture and memory in contemporary visual form. It’s an opportunity to experience rich, diverse perspectives that challenge and expand our understanding of identity and heritage.
