As part of Homeless Action Week, Eastern City BID is proud to support our Charity Partner of the Year, Providence Row, as they launch their Winter Safe Spaces Appeal — part of the #TheMileBetweenUs campaign.

Located just a mile from the City, Providence Row has been tackling homelessness and poverty in East London for over 150 years. The charity provides essential frontline support including hot meals, healthcare, housing advice, and pathways into work for people experiencing homelessness.

Across London, 13,429 people were seen sleeping rough last year — the highest number on record. As the cold months approach, Providence Row’s Winter Safe Spaces Appeal calls on City businesses to help bridge the mile between the financial district and those in need by offering practical and financial support.

There are many ways businesses can get involved this winter:

Host a clothing collection for warm items and toiletries.
Organise a fundraiser such as a quiz, bake sale, or charity raffle.
Join key events including the CEO Sleepout, Paws for Thought Dog Walk, and Carols at Lunch.
Sponsor a frontline service or event.
Encourage staff volunteering throughout the year.
Share #TheMileBetweenUs across digital channels to raise awareness.
Gift a Meal this Christmas – just £5 provides a hot, nutritious meal for someone in crisis.
By working together, the City’s business community can help ensure everyone has access to warmth, safety, and hope this winter.
