Get ready to explore the City of London’s rich array of ancient and modern buildings for free during Open House Festival 2025.
Open House Festival is an annual London-wide festival which is a celebration of London’s buildings, architecture, and neighbourhoods.
The City of London will have a broad range of things to see and do between 13 to 21 September from exploring major historic spaces, domestic spaces, livery halls, modern buildings, to fascinating expert tours and talks. Bookings are now open!
Eastern City highlights include:
- Leadenhall Market: Discover the architectural and historical layers of Leadenhall Market on an exclusive guided tour, tracing its origins from Roman Londinium through to its Victorian arcade rebirth. The highlight? Access to the Roman Basilica ruins beneath the market. Tours run on 20 & 21 September—booking required via the Open House Festival site. They also have a Drop in Candle painting craft workshop in their pop up craft market on 12:00-15:00 Sat 13 September.
- Guided tour of Andaz London Liverpool Street: Explore the historic Andaz Hotel, formerly the Great Eastern, on a guided tour featuring its hidden Masonic Temple and grand 1901 Ballroom. Part of Open House Festival, with limited-time slots from 15–19 September.
Free entry – booking required via the Open House website. - Walking Tour: Pubs and Taverns of the City: Explore the City’s architectural story on the Pubs and Taverns of the City walking tour—starting at Lamb Tavern in Leadenhall Market, it reveals historic pubs from Chaucer to Dickens’ eras. Guided tours run on 16 & 18 September, 18:00–19:30, starting underneath Leadenhall’s atrium. Free to join—booking via the Open House Festival site is required
- Drop in at St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace: Nestled behind 78 Bishopsgate, St Ethelburga’s is a restored 14th-century church transformed into a centre for reconciliation, peace, and reflection — rebuilt using Medieval techniques after a 1993 bombing, Visitors will explore the restored sanctuary and its tranquil peace garden, complete with a unique Bedouin tent. Located in the Eastern City — no booking required, simply drop in.
- Drop in at St Michael Cornhill, a Wren-designed church rebuilt after the Great Fire of London, located above the original Roman basilica and forum.
Drop in on Saturday 13 September for guided 10-minute tours paired with mini organ recitals every hour from 11 AM to 3 PM. Free to attend with no prior booking—just register via the Open House Festival website.
