The Big Climb Against Loneliness
920 steps. 42 floors. One morning that helps end loneliness in later life.
Enter a team, climb your local skyline, and change later life for older people across the UK.
On the morning of Friday 20 November 2026, teams from across the City will climb the 920 steps of Tower 42, the tower at the heart of the Eastern City, to raise money for Re-engage, the UK charity reducing loneliness in later life – and they will do it dressed as Santa. It is one day, one building, and one clear ask: help us be there for older people who are facing later life alone.
Loneliness in later life is one of the most significant, under-recognised risks to health and wellbeing — and one of the fastest-growing social challenges as our population ages.
Re-engage tackles it directly, through Tea Parties, Call Companions and Activity Groups run by volunteers across the UK.
